Does anyone have any IQ statistics for the gay and straight people?
Most of the gay people that I come across generally have very high IQs
and they lead successful lives, well travelled, well spoken, well
educated and well dressed. I've always been intrigued by how their
minds work.
Any opinions on this?

Yeah my opinion is that you've just started a mindbogglingly long and
tedious flamewar. Kudos.

Successful people have no major reason not to come out of the closet. So perhaps
*known* gays are more intelligent. They can choose who they work with and
live with so going public isn't going to harm them. reputation is a poor substitute for success.

You wouldn't know how many gay people you've come across. Gay people

gays and straights have different priorities. straights tend to work hard
and be smart to attract a mate to procreate, but with gays they tend to work
hard and be smart to attract a mate to have sex. gays don't usually have
long term goals when attracting a mate so their IQ's are developed for
different reasons. also homosexuals tend to be predominately feminine in
quality so they pick up points elsewhere in the pictionary questions, while
the masculine types (male/fem/homo) tend to score more on the other scale,
in the end both straights and gays balance the scales simply because the
test compensates for masculinity and femineity.
and I hope this is no slur on someone's choice of sexuality, love is love,
no matter with whom you fall in love with. in some societies homosexuality
is a wise choice because of burdening population problems. the Trojans for
instance insisted on it to prevent inferior breeding, but of course
enforcing it was just as bad as criminalizing homosexuality.

This is the first time I've said this to you, as most of your posts
are fairly well balanced. But this was just a load of hogwash. Your
stereotyping is amazingly naiive, and equally as mis-guided as that
of flouncing queens and butch dykes.

That reason probably explains the odd out & honest homosexual.
A friend of mine who was a nurse working with mental defectives probably
explained the equation more correctly, when she told me that about 80% of
her patients were homosexual.

There is probably an element of truth in it, it reminds me of Savage Love a
few months ago (and if you don't read that every week, you should):
----
http://www.thestranger.com/2003-06-19/savage.html
"On average, gay men tend to be more fucked up than straight men. Being gay
and closeted and going through puberty and coming out and dealing with the
family bullshit and the religious bullshit and the societal bullshit--that
can be hugely traumatic. Some gay men never recover. When I was young and
single, MISD, I regarded myself and my fellow gay men as battle-scarred
Vietnam veterans. Are all Vietnam vets fucked up? Are they all drug-abusing
mental cases who treat their lovers like crap? No, of course not. But they
do tend to be fucked up at slightly higher rates than non-Vietnam-vets--at
least in the movies--and people who date Vietnam vets need to keep this in
mind and be on the lookout for any signs that the vet they're dating is one
of the fucked-up ones."
----
Which all sounds perfectly reasonable, though "80%" seems like a bit of
hyperbole, just like Mr O'Donnell having a friend who introduces herself:
"Hi I'm a nurse who works with mental defectives".

There is a huge difference between being "fucked up" and being a mental
defective, damnfine.
Yes, many of them have issues, and it probably has a bit to do with people
making blanket statements about 80% of them being mentally defective. If I
were harassed constantly for being different, I suspect I would be "fucked
up", too.

Kinda my point. The last paragraph was meant to agree with your general
assessment that Mr O'Donnell and his mysterious nurse friend were idiots.

Oh. Apologies, my dear. I am not so much on the ball today (as evidenced by
my other stupid question). I shall go away and come back in again.

A widely syndicated weekly sex advice column notable for the astonishing
frankness, non-PCness and total unflappability of the columnist, Dan Savage.
Overall it's hilarious and weirdly life-affirming (and occasionally even
helpful). If you're bored you can spend hours reading through these
archives, it's quite an education. ;)

I don't know how intelligent homosexuals are, but I have noticed that
intelligent people are much more likely than most to be declared homosexual
by those who are not very bright themselves. In fact, I would even go so
far as to say that anybody who has never been called "queer" could never
score above 120 on the Ravens APM. :-) Although, this is very different from
saying that people who really are gay are intellectually superior.

Freud had this to say about that:
"Homosexuality is assuredly no advantage, but it is nothing to be
ashamed of, no vice, no degradation; it cannot be classified as an
illness; we consider it to be a variation of the sexual function...
Many highly respectable individuals of ancient and modern times have
been homosexuals, several of the greatest men among them (Plato,
Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, etc.). It is a great injustice to
persecute homosexuality as a crime -- and a cruelty, too."
--Sigmund Freud
"To undertake to convert a fully developed homosexual into a
heterosexual does not offer much more prospect for success than the
reverse, except that for good practical reasons the latter is never
attempted."

Earle,
even that is questioned by evolutionary biology.
Actually it is anyway unlikely that nature creates or allows
such a frequent "aberration" if it is not an evolutionary stable
strategy.
Some examples from other mammals and birds show where
homosexuality can have an advantage.

Homosexuality is definitely an advantage among the mentally defective as it
makes them far less likely to breed & produce further generations of
imbeciles.
Unfortunately this sexual disability is is sometimes born into those of a
high IQ & in their cases it is a disadvantage that their intelligent genes
are not likely to be passed along.
I know that I may offend a few over-precious faggots but so be it.

Don't worry. You don't offend anyone, as you don't say anything sensible.
Mental deficiency is often not hereditary. It can come from external
factors from pregnancy and high up in the ages. So it would be of little
advantage for the species that mental deficient persons could not get
children.
Homosexuality is not a sexual disability. In many cases it is an
additional sexual ability, which gives bi-sexuality. Impotence is a
sexual disability.
If Mother Nature had known that a particular individual was unfit for
life and procreation, she would do much better in not letting this
individual be born. Giving him or her the property homosexuality to
prevent procreation would be completely inefficient.
